\ Introduction /
Tip-based nanofabrication and measurement researches have always been at the forefront field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. They underpinned many scientific discoveries and technological advances, such as carbon nanotube, graphene, nanoelectronics, nanofluidic and nanooptics. Currently, tremendous efforts are underway to further advance tip-based nanofabrication and measurement techniques towards establishing atomically precise manufacturing capability and widening their applications. In this context, understanding the machining mechanism of tip-based nanofabrication, expanding the scope of the measurement techniques or developing new measurement method as well as extending relevant applications are highly required.
The aim of this special theme is to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to present and review state-of-the-art developments, highlight critical challenges and present foresight visions in tip-based nanofabrication, measurement and application, with an emphasis on machining mechanism, improving measurement precision, new measurement technique and practical applications. Original research contributions and/or reviews are invited for this special section. Contributions in tip-based nanofabrication and measurement techniques about machining mechanism, high measurement precision, large area fabrication and measurement, applications in chemical, medical, and optical fields are strongly encouraged.
Possible topics, within this scope, include but are not limited to:
Machining mechanism of tip-based nanoscratching and indentation;
Vibration-assisted tip-based nanofabrication;
Thermal-assisted tip-based nanofabrication;
Chemical-assisted tip-based nanofabrication;
Tip-based friction-induced nanofabrication;
Advanced modelling and simulations for tip-based nanofabrication.
Tip-based electrochemical measurement;
Tip-based optical measurement;
Emerging and novel applications of tip-based nanofabrication and measurement.
