Full English Speech Script
Respected Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,
This piece of Ru porcelain in my hand has traversed the dreams of Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty, echoed with Marco Polo’s caravan bells, and crystallized over nine centuries into the celestial-blue cipher of civilization.
Today, as a "Contemporary Inheritor of China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage in Ru Porcelain," I stand here with questions from a young creator: When digital tides erode traditional shores, what stance should the new generation of artists take to illuminate the future?
It is an honor to join you on this United Nations platform to discuss "New-Generation Artistic Expression and Future Responsibilities."
(Plays 15-second audio of kiln-opening ceremony from smartphone)
Ru porcelain, born in China’s Song Dynasty over 900 years ago, is renowned worldwide
for its "celestial glaze"—the color of sky after rain, when clouds part to reveal sunlight. Its
beauty embodies a millennium-long dialogue between artisans and earth, fire, and water,
and crystallizes the Chinese philosophy of "harmony between humanity and nature."
Looking back at human civilization, every leap forward bears the imprint of art-culturetechnology synergy:
From cuneiform’s first etchings on clay tablets to the knowledge revolution sparked by
movable type.
From porcelain dancing with Arabic numerals along the Silk Road to the aerodynamic
principles hidden in Dunhuang’s flying deities.
Cultural DNA has always mutated in the soil of technology, while technological
breakthroughs orient themselves toward civilization’s starry sky.
Over my 13-year career, I’ve used Ru porcelain as a medium for East-West aesthetic
dialogues through cross-border collaborations:
- With French artists Bashlot & Calon, merging Song aesthetics with Baroque modernity in
floral vases exhibited at Brussels Contemporary Art Fair.
- With Dutch designer Henny van Nistelrooy, creating minimalist "Coastline Series" coffee
ware where Ru glaze interprets oceanic horizons.
- For the Paris Olympics Art Summit, designing "Celestial-Glazed Gilded Tea Cups" that
mirrored Ru’s hues under the Louvre’s glass dome, projecting Eastern artistry globally.
We reimagine tradition through contemporary lenses:
Using mathematical modeling to decode Song-era kiln textures.
Employing AI simulations to predict glaze flow patterns at 1,300°C.
Merging Ru’s iconic "ice crackle" glaze with 3D digital art, reigniting ancient kiln fires in the
digital age.
As Emperor Huizong wrote in "New Rites of Zhenghe":
"Follow ancient wisdom without being bound by its forms; adapt to modern needs without
being constrained by present limitations."
This philosophy—honoring the spirit of tradition while innovating its expression—was
revolutionary nine centuries ago. Today, it must guide our approach to "new-generation
artistic responsibility."
Art is not merely expression but a force for cross-civilizational understanding and peace,
forging resonance beyond words.
Here, I invite young artists worldwide to co-create with ceramics as our shared language.
Imagine:African woodcarvings intertwining with European glass. Latin American textiles
dancing with Chinese porcelain. In such moments of cultural symbiosis, art becomes
humanity’s universal tongue—a silent symphony of civilizations across time.
The future belongs to those bold enough to bridge past, present, and tomorrow.
As we say in China: "All things are possible when the sky clears after rain."
Thank you.
