由成立于英國的Story Leading Pubishing出版的英文文學雜志Bluebell第一期正式出版啦!從去年開始征稿,共收到全球100多篇投稿,最終來自十個國家的25篇小說、非虛構和詩歌作品入選。
Bluebell是一本紙質文學雜志,是一個富含創作能量的平臺,致力于呈現來自世界各地的新銳寫作人才。我們的編輯團隊成員來自英國、中國、印度、美國和津巴布韋,最初在英國東英吉利大學(UEA)的創意寫作碩士課程中相識。我們希望建立一個跨越文類、跨越國界的國際寫作社群,通過新的視角來挑戰、豐富并拓展傳統敘事。我們致力于尋找能夠推開知識、思想和想象邊界的高質量寫作,并期待引入新鮮聲音,推動跨越國界的交流與對話。
Bluebell, a print magazine, is a dynamic platform showcasing new talent from around the world. Our editors, from the UK, China, India, US and Zimbabwe met at the University of East Anglia’s Creative Writing Master’s Programme. We were inspired to build an international community of writers across genres who bring new perspectives to challenge, complicate and expand traditional narratives. We are looking for high-quality writing that pushes at intellectual, political and imaginative boundaries, drawing fresh voices into conversations across borders.

李梓新
一位用英文和中文進行寫作的非虛構作者。2011年創辦“三明治”。2024年,在UEA完成了創意非虛構寫作的碩士課程。關注世界各地的離散文學,尤其是來自東亞和東南亞的聲音。目前正進行關于潮汕的非虛構書籍寫作。2020年,在倫敦創辦Story Leading Publishing,致力于建立東西方之間的文學交流和出版橋梁。2024年,創辦

Georgia Aitkenhead
Georgia在高中之前一直是一位在家學習者,本科在牛津大學學習英國文學,后又完成了劍橋文學碩士學位,并一直追隨著她對教學、講故事和社區建設的熱情。
2017年她曾在北京執教半年,幫助自閉癥兒童學習。最近五年,她是英國國家數據科學和人工智能研究所——艾倫·圖靈研究所(The Alan Turing Institute)的博士后研究員,在神經多樣性團隊工作,探索感官認知和公眾參與的研究課題。目前,她正在幫助一位身殘志堅者寫作自傳。

英日混血作家,著有Out of Shadows: Six Visionary Victorian Women in Search of a Public Voice
Bluebell(藍鈴花)——光是這個名字,就能喚起美妙的聯想。藍鈴花呈天藍色,鐘形的花朵仿佛精靈的杯盞,自古以來便與魔法和仙靈傳說緊密相連。即使到了今天,凡是曾在斑駁光影中的林地轉角處,偶然邂逅一片藍花地毯的人,都知道那種瞬間被它們迷住的感覺。
在閱讀這本刊物中的詩歌與散文時,我常常想起這種感覺。
Bluebell是一本文學氣息濃厚、具有強烈國際視野的雜志,其作品來自世界各地——既有這種野花在春日常見、卻仍令人屏息的地方,也有它從未出現過的地域。
盡管創刊號所展現的作家群體地理跨度甚廣,描繪了不同的文化和社會,但仍有一些共同的主題格外引人注目。恰如這本雜志的名字所示,許多作家的關注點集中在“平凡”事物中的非凡意義上:一個偶然的邂逅;一次出人意料的反應;某種揭示隱藏現實或建立新聯系的經歷。

而當我從當下回望過去,不禁想到維多利亞時代的人曾將藍鈴花視為恒久不變的象征——這點對我而言同樣真實。孩提時代,每到春天,我已故的母親總會準備好野餐,執意帶我們全家開車前往她最喜歡的林地,重復一年一度的傳統儀式。她自東京遷居英格蘭北部后便深深愛上了藍鈴花。我們會將車停好,走上那條年年走過的小徑,一直走到空地上——如果一切如愿,那里總會再次鋪展開一片藍色花海,那景象既熟悉親切,又每一次都令人驚艷如初。
這種感受,不正如我們期待從一本文學雜志中獲得的體驗嗎?每一期都保有一以貫之的語調與精神,又蘊藏足夠的新鮮元素,帶來意想不到的驚喜?

Bluebell– the very name conjures up wondrous associations. The
bluebell, with its cerulean, bell-shaped cups has been associated historically with enchantment and fairy lore. Even today, anyone who has ever turned a corner in a light-dappled woodland and stumbled upon a carpet of these blue flowers will know what it is to fall suddenly under their spell.
It’s something I found myself thinking about a lot while reading the poetry and prose within these pages.
Bluebellis a very international publication, with work drawn from all over the world – from territories in which this wildflower is acommon, though nonetheless arresting, springtime sight, to those in which it is unknown.
Although the geographically wide pool of talent showcased in the magazine’s first issue has resulted in a real diversity of cultures and societies portrayed, some unifying themes stand out. Aptly, given the publication’s name, a preoccupation of many writers is the extraordinary nature of‘ordinary’ things: a chance encounter; an unanticipated reaction; something that reveals a previously hidden reality or forges a new connection.
In the constantly intriguing ‘Murmurations’, Siobhan Galvin presents a protagonist drawn into an unstoppable chain of events through a mysterious relationship. ‘Shrilly, on a Tuesday’ by Arun attaches startling new meanings to what we might initially regard as a collection of everyday objects.Eugenia Webster’s ‘What Would You Do If War Began Tomorrow?’ depicts the movement of the author’s fingers stroking tattered book spines as a sort of portal leading her back to scenes from childhood.
These luminous moments from three works – a story, poem and essay – are just a few of the many fascinating examples I could have chosen to highlight. It was a pleasure to discover many new voices, and new writing that often made me look at today’s world afresh.
To turn from the subject of the present to the past,though, I am reminded that the Victorians associated bluebells with constancy – something that also rings true for me. Throughout my childhood, my late mother – who’d loved bluebells ever since emigrating from her native Tokyo to Northern England – would pack up a picnic every spring and insist that our family drive out to her favourite local wood so that we could repeat an annual ritual. We’d park the car anddescend the same well-trodden path to the clearing where, if everything was at is should be, we’d encounter that sea of blue flowers once more – a sight that was both comfortingly recognisable and uniquely astounding on each viewing.
Isn’t this sensation similar to the feeling we hope to gain from reading a literary magazine – that every issue will be instantly identifiable in terms of overall tone, while also bursting with elements that take us by surprise?
On that note, all that remains for me to say is that I hope this will be the first of many issues of
Bluebellmagazine and that regularly exploring its pages will become as much a part of my annual routines as that long-past family tradition once was.
Emily Midorikawa is a writer of fiction and non-fiction. She is the author of Out of the Shadows: Six Visionary Victorian Women in Search of a Public Voice, and the coauthor of A Secret Sisterhood: The Literary Friendships of Jane Austen, Charlotte Brontё, George Eliot, and Virginia Woolf (written with Emma Claire Sweeney, and with a foreword by Margaret Atwood).
Emily is a winner of the Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize. Her journalism has appeared in publications including the Paris Review, TIME, The Times (of London), and the Washington Post. She is an experienced writing tutor, having taught at institutions including the University of Cambridge; City, University of London; the Open University; and New York University London, where she was based until 2024.
