Theme
Cultural Exchange and Trust Building
Time and place
18th May 2024, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China
Since the establishment of the strategic partnership in 2003, China and the European Union (EU) have been closely cooperating in various aspects, including economic and trade exchanges, political interactions, and cultural exchanges. However, in recent years, the bilateral relations have been experiencing unprecedented changes and challenges. Misunderstandings between the two sides have deepened, putting the development of relations in a difficult situation. Yet, several EU-China high-level dialogue mechanisms were restarted in 2023, providing new opportunities for people-to-people exchanges and dialogues.
The two sides should interact with each other more actively to dispel cognitive misconceptions, explore space for cooperation, and achieve mutual benefits. Discussing and communicating EU-China related topics is a crucial part of promoting cooperation in good governance, digital interconnection, low-carbon environmental protection, sustainable development, and so on. Promoting exchanges and mutual learning between Eastern and Western civilizations is also of great significance.
With the theme of "Cultural Exchange and Trust Building", the 2024 Tsinghua Forum on Communicating EU-China Relations is open to universities, think tanks, enterprises, and people from all sectors interested in developing China-EU relations. Paper submissions on the following topics are welcome, including but not limited to:
1. Image and perception of China in the EU and its member states
2. Image and perception of the EU and its member states in China
3. Opportunities and challenges for Chinese enterprises in Europe
4. Opportunities and challenges for European enterprises in China
5. EU-China relations in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative
6. The cultural exchanges and mutual learning between the EU and China
7. The roles of the EU and China in global governance (e.g., sustainable development, climate change, environment protection, etc.)
8. Crisis communication in EU-China relations
The conference is bilingual in Chinese and English.
