弗朗西斯培根是20世紀英國最重要的藝術家之一，他常常將畸形或病態的人物和野獸形象作為主題，畫面籠罩著一種黑暗壓抑的死亡陰翳，透露著可怕、痛苦和令人不安的情緒。

在培根眼中，人與獸有著共同的特點。畫面模糊人與獸的邊界，尖叫扭曲的人物有人類原始的獸性沖動。
