The men's 400m freestyle final at the 2025 National Swimming Championships in Shenzhen delivered an electrifying clash of generations on Saturday, as 20-year-old world record holder Pan Zhanle clocked 3:45.34 to claim gold, edging out his childhood idol, 33-year-old Olympic champion Sun Yang, who secured bronze. Fei Liwei earned silver, while Sun, competing in his first major final since returning to the sport, delivered his strongest post-comeback performance in the event.

據了解，這是潘展樂與孫楊在400自決賽中首次同場對決，兩人差了將近13歲。

賽后，孫楊看著賽果久久不離去的一幕，沖上熱搜。

The race marked the first head-to-head meeting between Pan, the current 100m freestyle world record holder, and Sun, a three-time Olympic gold medalist and former 400m world champion. The 13-year age gap between the two stars drew widespread attention, with Sun's emotional post-race moment—lingering by the results board—quickly trending on Chinese social media.

雖然未能奪冠，今年12月就滿34歲的孫楊仍然超越自我，創下復出后在400米自由泳項目上的最佳成績。

在采訪中，孫楊表示，自己的肩膀積液很嚴重，能堅持把比賽比完，對成績（銅牌）也很滿意。

孫楊說，“和小潘的第一次見面，感覺很好”“（和年輕隊員同場競技）我覺得其實能夠有這樣的畫面挺好的，覺得挺幸福的，老和新都在一起，這也是中國游泳的傳承?！?/p>

Despite battling significant shoulder fluid buildup, Sun, who turns 34 in December, expressed satisfaction with his podium finish. "Completing the race was already an achievement given my physical condition," he said. "Sharing the pool with younger athletes like Pan feels meaningful. It's a symbol of continuity for Chinese swimming—the old and new generations pushing each other forward."

潘展樂則表示，“和兒時偶像比賽壓力挺大的，決賽都是強勁的對手，但今天的成績跟世界頂級相比不怎么樣?！?/p>

值得一提的是，潘展樂在10歲接受采訪時曾表示，希望自己未來“比孫楊快就可以了”。即將在今年8月迎來21歲生日的他，這次在與孫楊的對決中達成了這一目標。

Pan, who will turn 21 in August, admitted feeling pressure racing against his childhood hero. "Competing with Sun Yang was daunting. He's a legend," said the rising star. The victory, however, fulfilled a decade-old promise: At age 10, Pan had vowed in a local interview to "one day swim faster than Sun Yang".

頒獎典禮上，孫楊和潘展樂、費立緯一一握手，還為潘展樂整理排名單，幫他把排名“1”穩穩貼好。
