一、項目背景 | RESIDENTIAL DESIGN
Philip Olmesdahl 作為開普敦 SAOTA 工作室的負責人,在城市中心的這片場地附近居住了超過 15 年,期間一直對這里贊賞有加,后來才成功將其收入囊中。而這一時機恰到好處。他表示:“孩子們步入青春期后,我們急需一個更為寬敞的住所。”成為自己的客戶,讓菲利普有了挑戰極限的契機——把多年來與 SAOTA 合作設計房屋所積累的智慧,和更多奇思妙想以及帶有實驗性的元素相結合。對于建筑師而言,在設計自家住宅時,能多一些趣味,少幾分刻板。這并非意味著他對自己住宅的設計不夠嚴謹,而是菲利普借此機會能夠深入探索建筑理念,無需刻意提出明確的結論或形成特定的理論,同時還能將個人的聯想與喜好融入其中。
Philip Olmesdahl, as the head of the SAOTA studio in Cape Town, has lived near this site in the city center for more than 15 years. During this period, he has always highly praised this place before successfully acquiring it. And this timing is just right. He said, "After the children enter adolescence, we urgently need a more spacious residence." Becoming his own client gave Philip the opportunity to challenge the limits - combining the wisdom accumulated over the years of designing houses in collaboration with SAOTA with more ingenious ideas and experimental elements. For architects, when designing their own residences, they can have more fun and less rigidity. This does not mean that he was not rigorous enough in the design of his own residence. Instead, Philip took this opportunity to delve deeply into architectural concepts without deliberately drawing definite conclusions or forming specific theories, while still being able to incorporate his personal associations and preferences.
二、設計理念 | RESIDENTIAL DESIGN
在成功爭取到的這塊位于街角的地塊上,地勢頗為陡峭。其中央有一個大花園,花園之中坐落著一座具有“令人難以忘懷”特色的60年代牧場式房屋,而這恰恰是那個時代花園式郊區的典型呈現。然而,菲利普指出,開普敦市在該區域推行的密集化戰略,為這片地塊的開發帶來了全新的可能。基于此,他沿著一條等高線對這塊地進行了細致的劃分。在后續的重新開發過程中,菲利普在地塊的上部精心建造了一棟配備五間臥室的家庭住宅,同時在下部規劃建設了兩棟各有四間臥室的出租公寓。菲利普表示:“我們致力于打造一棟獨棟住宅,讓人們能夠盡情享受城市的各類活動以及充滿活力的氛圍。”與此同時,他還期望在不斷變化的城市環境里,重新展現出花園郊區獨立住宅的獨特精神。
從概念設計的角度來看,主宅與下方的住宅之間通過一堵共用的墻壁進行分隔,這種設計關系參考了該地區歷史上聯排住宅的風格。不過,在設計主屋時,菲利普并未按照常規在底層建造花園,而是巧妙地將房屋的占地面積向后退處延伸,并在下面的兩層搭建了一個平臺。他解釋道:“我希望能夠把花園構筑在空中。”該建筑的裙樓部分包含了配備健身房的車庫、供客人和員工居住的宿舍以及雜物間。而上層的兩層空間則被規劃為起居區域,站在此處,能夠最大限度地領略城市的壯麗風光。第三層主要設置了起居室以及一個帶有頂棚的室外露臺。至于最上層,則分布著四間套房臥室,還有一間小巧的休息室和書房。其中,菲利普擁有一間寬敞的辦公室,他妻子則有一個專用的瑜伽室。
On this plot of land at the street corner that was successfully obtained, the terrain is rather steep. In the center, there is a large garden, within which stands a 1960s ranch-style house with an "unforgettable" feature, which is precisely the typical manifestation of a garden-like suburb of that era. However, Philip pointed out that the intensification strategy implemented by the City of Cape Town in this area has brought brand-new possibilities for the development of this plot. Based on this, he made a detailed division of this piece of land along a contour line. During the subsequent redevelopment process, Philip carefully built a family residence with five bedrooms on the upper part of the plot, and at the same time planned and constructed two rental apartments each with four bedrooms on the lower part. Philip said, "We are committed to creating a single-family home where people can fully enjoy all kinds of activities and the vibrant atmosphere of the city." Meanwhile, he also hopes to re-present the unique spirit of detached houses in the garden suburbs in the constantly changing urban environment.
From the perspective of conceptual design, the main house is separated from the residences below by a shared wall, and this design relationship refers to the style of the historical townhouses in the area. However, when designing the main house, Philip did not build a garden on the ground floor as usual. Instead, he ingeniously extended the floor area of the house towards the back and built a platform on the two lower floors. He explained, "I hope to build the garden in the air." The podium of the building includes a garage equipped with a gym, dormitories for guests and staff, and storage rooms. The upper two floors are planned as living areas. Standing here, one can enjoy the magnificent scenery of the city to the greatest extent. The third floor mainly features a living room and an outdoor terrace with a roof. As for the top floor, there are four suite bedrooms, as well as a small lounge and study. Among them, Philip has a spacious office and his wife has a dedicated yoga room.
三、空間維度 | RESIDENTIAL DESIGN
顏色同樣彰顯且突出了混凝土原本的材料屬性與質感。菲利普表示,他同眾多建筑師一樣,“鐘情于事物的營造方式”,而這種癡迷與欣喜之情也體現在對材料觸感的運用以及外立面富有表現力的構造元素之中。在房屋內部,主要的生活起居空間最能展現這座房子的獨特之處。其被規劃為一個寬敞的大型開放式區域,涵蓋了起居室、廚房以及餐廳。這些空間相互交織、彼此連通,這恰是SAOTA設計住宅時的一個顯著特征,由此營造出一個靈動的生活空間。
菲利普還提到,“明快的線條、簡約的幾何圖形與質感上佳的飾面形成鮮明對比”,這便是SAOTA設計方法的核心所在——將現代設計理念與天然材料相融合,打造出一個建筑風格先鋒前衛,同時又宜人舒適的居住空間。

This is the core of SAOTA's design approach - integrating modern design concepts with natural materials to create a living space that is both avant-garde in architectural style and pleasant and comfortable.
