(Larry):
英文: “Welcome to our show! Today, we have a special interview with Mr. Elon Musk – not only a renowned Trump adviser but also the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and the Chair of X Corp. Thank you for joining us.”
(Elon Musk):
Thanks for having me.”
(Larry):
英文: “Let’s begin with this matter. Recently, many have criticized your role in government. X was hit by a cyberattack that forced it offline, and it’s believed that the attack came from foreign sources. This is huge news—could you tell us more about it?”
(Elon Musk):
英文: “Well, we’re not exactly sure what happened, but there was indeed a massive cyberattack aimed at taking down the X system. The IP addresses involved indicated that the origin was in the Ukraine area.”
(Larry):
Oh, so that’s your suspicion. Is the website – is the internet back up now?”
(Elon Musk):
英文: “It’s up.”
(Larry):
英文: “Alright, good. I was just reviewing recent events: arson at several Tesla charging stations near Boston; gunfire fired at a Tesla dealership in Oregon; and protests in downtown New York against a Tesla showroom. Your stock has taken a hit, and you’ve been criticized from every side.”
(Elon Musk):
Always look on the bright side of life.”
(Larry):
But aside from that optimistic outlook, how’s your day? What motivates you to keep pushing through in these tough times?”
(Elon Musk):
英文: “Yes, but I believe we’re doing the right thing here. There’s a tremendous amount of waste and fraud in government. Back when I worked in government, you could see it clearly in the Inspector General’s and the Government Accountability Office’s reports—many audits pointed out the waste and fraud. Last year, a GAO report estimated that, during the Biden administration, government fraud reached as high as $500 billion. So this isn’t just a Trump-era problem; it persists under Biden. What we’re trying to do is reduce that number, save money for the American taxpayer, and stop spending on absurd projects that taxpayers wouldn’t agree with – like transgender animal surgeries. Why should American tax dollars be spent on these things? Moreover, the current president has a long list of absurdities; for instance, 20 million dead people are still marked as alive in the Social Security database, and there are $100 million in loans given to children under 11. One might say those eight-year-olds are shockingly entrepreneurial.”
(Larry):
Truly, very smart kids.”
(Elon Musk):
Exactly. A huge number of records show people—allegedly 160 years old—as ‘a(chǎn)live.’ They must not realize how ‘healthy’ the country’s figures look.”
(Larry):
Yes… you know.”
(Larry):
英文: “Now, explain this to us. How do you actually do it? How big is your team? Where do you mainly recruit from? What drives you to target agencies like the Treasury, Social Security, or USAID? How does it work? Please let the public know.”
(Elon Musk):
英文: “Our approach is straightforward: we examine executive orders, follow the money, and scrutinize USAID—especially where presidential orders to suspend foreign aid have been violated. In our view, foreign aid often hides massive corruption. We’ve observed huge sums being funneled to non-governmental organizations, which is one of the largest fraud loopholes in the world. The government can allocate funds to an NGO without proper oversight, resulting in billions of dollars flowing into entities that are essentially scams. We’re trying to put an end to that.”
(Larry):
英文: “If I may interject—State Department’s Rubio tweeted yesterday that he has adopted over 80% of your recommendations to cut down spending at USAID, which shows your review and analysis are spot on.”
(Elon Musk):
So when people criticize what the DOGE team is doing, we ask, ‘Which part exactly?’ Because we post every action on the DOGE.gov website and on our DOGE handle on X. We publish the receipts and the measures we’ve taken. When we face criticism, we simply ask, ‘What exactly do you object to? Which line item, which cost saving do you disagree with?’ Most cannot pinpoint a single one.”
(Larry):
Yes, it’s all transparent – line by line.”
(Elon Musk):
Absolutely, every line is open and clear.”
(Larry):
That’s truly remarkable.”
(Elon Musk):
英文: “Take the Treasury, for example. We proposed two major recommendations which have now been implemented: every payment going out of the Treasury – especially those processed through its primary payment computer, PAM – must be properly coded, with an explanation of the payment. Given that we’re talking about around $5 trillion a year, this basic step alone is estimated to save $100 billion annually.”
(Larry):
英文: “Let me see if I’ve got this right—you’re not changing policies; you’re auditing the fiscal mechanisms to ensure that funds move from point A to point B where they’re supposed to go. Sometimes they don’t make it, or they end up somewhere else. You’re not changing the laws; you’re doing what any company would do in a profit and loss audit.”
(Elon Musk):
What we add here is care and competence. Moreover, there’s a massive issue where people use fake or stolen Social Security numbers to fraudulently obtain benefits and loans. It’s estimated that this amounts to about 10% of federal expenditures – roughly $500 billion.”
(Larry):
That’s an astronomical number. Do you work closely with agency heads and cabinet secretaries? I saw Howard Lutnick on TV yesterday saying you’re partnering with them. Does that hold true?”
(Elon Musk):
英文: “We do consult with cabinet secretaries and agency heads. We try to position ourselves as technical support, helping departments get a handle on things. In reality, there is a vast federal bureaucracy with only a thin layer of politically appointed officials atop it. The bureaucracy—the real power—often ignores those politically appointed individuals.”
(Larry):
英文: “Why is that? I worked for Reagan many years ago, and I was also around during Trump’s first term. The bureaucracy is permanent, typically liberal, and doesn’t necessarily enforce or implement the president’s policies.”
(Elon Musk):
They do everything they can to thwart presidential policies, even though the president is the representative elected by the people. If the president can’t implement policies that reflect the will of the people, then it isn’t a democracy—it’s just bureaucracy. That’s what we’re trying to defeat—to break the grip of bureaucracy and return power to the people. The bureaucracy is overwhelmingly Democratic; in Washington, D.C., 92.5% of voters chose Kamala. So it’s a profoundly ‘blue’ situation.”
(Larry):
So which agency or department is your next target?”
(Elon Musk):
We’re trying to act broadly across all departments rather than targeting one at a time.”
(Larry):
Have you been involved with all of them now?”
(Elon Musk):
Pretty much.”
(Larry):
(Elon Musk):
Our goal is to make the government more efficient across the board.”
(Larry):
How big is your team currently?”
(Elon Musk):
We’re a little over 100 at the moment, with plans to grow to around 200.”
(Larry):
And where do you primarily recruit from?”
(Elon Musk):
Mainly we recruit software and IT security professionals, many of whom come from the finance and technology sectors.”
英文: “It’s a bit bizarre—the U.S. is facing an enormous federal budget deficit of about $2 trillion, and it keeps growing. Around Thanksgiving, I saw that the interest payments on the national debt exceed even the Defense Department’s budget. It was a real wake-up call for me.”
(Larry):
You know how to read balance sheets. Do you feel that you’ve given up other things for this? How significant is that power?”
(Larry):
Once you’re on this path, there’s no turning back.”
(Elon Musk):
I’m here to eliminate waste and fraud, and we’re making good progress. Our savings have already exceeded $4 billion.”
(Larry):
So, in the end, will you save up to $1 trillion?”
(Elon Musk):
Yes, provided we have sufficient staffing, our goal is to hit $1 trillion in savings.”
(Larry):
英文: “These measures can indeed be translated into real results. We previously discussed with OMB Director Russell Vought the reassertion of impoundment authority—this audit won’t just sit on a shelf gathering dust. It will yield genuine savings and bring the expenditure baseline down.”
(Elon Musk):
英文: “The Inspector General and the GAO have produced many excellent audits, yet nothing gets done. A few years ago, the GAO found that 17 million deceased individuals were still marked as alive in the Social Security database; now the number is 20 million, and nothing seems to change. I suppose you could view it as an extreme case of ‘complaint minimization’ – people rarely complain when money is delivered, but if it isn’t, they’re the loudest of all. In fact, those who complain the most are usually the ones receiving fraudulent funds.”
(Larry):
You’re definitely tackling these issues head-on.”
(Elon Musk):
Yes, we’re eliminating waste and fraud—that’s precisely why I’m here, and we’re making very significant progress.”
(Larry):
Will you be continuing this work for another year?”
(Elon Musk):
Yes, I think so.”
(Larry):
So, the final report will come out in mid-next year?”
(Elon Musk):
We’re busy getting things done rather than just writing reports. Reports don’t mean anything unless actions are taken.”
英文: “entitlements spending is a big chunk – about $500 billion – and it’s a mechanism used by the Democrats to attract and secure illegal immigrants, essentially paying them to come here and eventually turn them into voters. That’s why the Democrats are so disturbed by this – if we shut off that gigantic money magnet, they could lose votes.”
(Larry):
The President fully supports your efforts.”
(Elon Musk):
英文: “Yes, thank you. Without the President’s support, we could not have made any progress. But still, the loudest opposition comes from the Democrats, who don’t want waste and fraud stopped because it’s a gigantic magnet for illegal immigrants and voter retention. You also see some crazy stuff – for example, FEMA funds, which are meant to help Americans in distress, are instead being used to pay for luxury hotels in New York for illegal immigrants. And in California and New York, voter ID is not even required. Isn’t that incredible?”
(Larry):
Insane! As a New Yorker, it’s just unbelievable.”
(Elon Musk):
Yes, absolutely.”
(Larry):
That clearly violates the Constitution and its underlying principles.”
(Elon Musk):
Yes.”
(Larry):
英文: “The producers are yelling at me to wrap up, but I don’t want to end this interview because it’s so interesting. May I ask one last question? Just 20 seconds—unrelated to DOGE: Can you rescue the astronauts?”
(Elon Musk):
Yes, we’re bringing them back in a few weeks.”
(Larry):
It seems this issue isn’t receiving enough attention. You’re going to get them back, right?”
(Elon Musk):
We will.”
