內容摘要
Abstract
In this presentation, after introducing the concept of Human Capital Sustainability (HCS), I will present two perspectives on the topic. First, I will present an institutional or policy-level perspective, highlighting ways in which we can measure HCS, and what trends in these measures suggest. Here the focus will be on the threats to HCS such as the lack of health of health insurance coverage, layoffs, work-place stressors and work-shift variability, as well as the costs of such work-related risk-factors to society as a whole. Shifting to the second, managerial perspective, I will focus on HCS’s implications on organizational effectiveness, I will review several studies of my own and others highlighting particular workplace threats to HCS and how they directly and indirectly impact individual, team and firm performance. These threats include aversive work conditions, pay-for-performance, toxic interpersonal relations at work, over-identification with the firm, and work-related injury. The presentation will end with recommendations for research and key implications for practitioners and policymakers.
