Anastrophe 的意思是“倒置法”，即把“主謂賓”或是“主系表”的結構變成“賓謂主”或“表系主”，從句法上說，這種手法是一種“倒裝”，使用它可以造成一種強化和渲染的效果（This reversed order creates a dramatic impact and lends weight to the description offered by the adjective.）這種手法在演說和詩句中常常出現。
我們來看下面的例句：
“Excited, the children were” – 這個句子的原有順序應該是The children were excited. 把excited提前，強調了這個激動和興奮。
“In the forest dark and deep, I wandered lonely as a sheep” – 這一句，把dark and deep放在前面，突出了在荒漠中的孤獨感。
“The greatest teacher, failure is.”—這一句弱化了failure本身，而重點強調“最好的老師”，而正常順序Failure is the greatest teacher. 就顯得太平淡了。
“Blessed are those who mourn”---這一句強化了“有福了”，而弱化了“那些悲傷的人”。
