TheSolstice Gallerywasn’t large—
just two rooms, some white walls,
and a smell of lemon oil and old paper.

Every season, they hosted one rotating exhibit.

“Unsaid Things.”

People wandered the rooms in silence—
abstract portraits, scattered lines of poetry projected onto canvas,
and, in the center of the final wall,
a long wooden table with a thickleather-bound guestbook.

Above it: “Leave a thought. Or borrow one.”

Clara was visiting on a whim.
She flipped through pages idly—thank-yous, reflections, the occasional drawing—
until she reachedpage 46.

There, alone in the center of the page, someone had written:

“I’m not sure if this is a beginning or a letting go.” —R

She didn’t know why it held her.
Just that it did.

The next day, she returned.
Same time, same room.

She turned to page 46,
and underneath the note, she added:

“Maybe some things can be both.” —C

One week later,
a new line appeared:

“If it’s both, how do we know when to stay?” —R

And so began theirquestion-and-answer poetry.

No names.
No details.
Just letters, and words,
and whatever the artwork helped them unlock.

They never wrote more than one line.
Never left dates.

Onlyreturned to page 46,
and waited for each other’s silences to respond.

Until one Saturday,
Clara found the page blank—
the notes carefullytorn out,
a slip of white paper taped gently in their place.

“The exhibit ends tomorrow. I’ll be here at 5PM. In front of the canvas that made you stay so long last Thursday.”

Clara’s breath caught.
She had lingered in front of a pale blue painting titled "Threshold",
not knowing why it felt like memory.

She came back at 4:55.
Stood by Threshold.
Waited.

At 5:00,
someone stepped up beside her.
Quiet.
Holding a folded page—creases at the corners, torn neatly from the guestbook.

He glanced at her,
nervous.
Then said softly:

“Maybe we can begin by not letting go.”

She smiled.
Not at the painting this time—
but at him.
