本周我們來學習與醫院相關的詞匯

1. thermometer /θ?'m?m?t?/

n. 溫度計;體溫表;

搭配補充： thermometer measures / reads ..溫度計讀數為..

e.g. The nurse used athermometerto check my temperature.

e.g. If thethermometer readsover 38 degrees Celsius, you might have an infection.

e.g. Traditional mercury thermometers are being replaced by digital models due to safety concerns.

補充：infection n. 感染

2. appointment /?'p??ntm(?)nt/

n. 預約；約定

搭配：dental/dentist's appointments 牙醫預約

Outpatient appointments 門診預約

make/ schedule an appointment 預約

e.g. Can Imake an appointmentwith the dentist?

e.g. Myappointmentwith the eye specialist isscheduledfor next week.

e.g. I had toreschedule my appointmentbecause of a sudden work emergency.

adj. appointed 時間指定的，約定的

e.g. Call me when youreach the appointed place/location.

e.g. The meeting will be held inthe appointed roomon the second floor.

3. specialist /?spe??l?st/

n. 專家

搭配：a leading/top specialist 頂級專家

a specialist in/on sth 在…方面的專家

e.g. I had to wait three weeks to seea leading specialistbecause the general practitioner couldn’t confirm the diagnosis.

e.g. He works asa specialist ininfectious diseases at a major hospital.

補充：general practitioner 全科醫生

infectious disease 傳染病

specialize v.專門從事；專門研究

e.g. After medical school, she decided tospecialize incardiology.

補充：cardiology 心臟病學；

4. pediatrician /?pi:di:??tr???n/

n. 兒科醫師

e.g. When my child was sick, we took him to see apediatrician.

e.g. It’s important for parents to have regular check-ups with a trustedpediatrician.

n. pediatrics 兒科學

e.g. The hospital has a dedicatedpediatricsdepartment for child healthcare.

adj. pediatric 兒科的

e.g. Thepediatricdepartment in this hospital is very well equipped.

5. ward /w??d/

n. 病房

e.g. He spent a week in thecardiac wardfor heart treatment.

e.g. She was admitted to thematernity wardwhen she went into labor.

補充：maternity 產科的

be into labor 分娩；生產
