北京時間7月12日，據開拓者記者Victor Sun報道，猛龍的9號簽本來是要選南蘇丹中鋒馬魯阿奇。
Victor Sun表示：“猛龍原本計劃在第九順位選擇馬魯阿奇，但因為他在試訓中的表現被瀚森壓制（原話為He got torched in a one-on-one），進而導致猛龍失去了對這名杜克中鋒的信心，從而最終選擇了博伊爾斯。”
在今年的NBA選秀大會中，猛龍在第9順位選中默里-博伊爾斯，太陽在第10順位選中馬魯阿奇，開拓者在第16順位選中楊瀚森。
