The Healthy River Director oversees all aspects of protection, science, stewardship, and community relations for freshwater ecosystems and species within China. Provides scientific leadership and support for TNC’s conservation planning work and establishes overall conservation priorities in the Healthy River strategy.
The Healthy River Director provides technical and program support to Healthy River strategy planning and implementation. The director serves as the principle contact to government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations, and the academic community. He/she establishes the Conservancy as a major conservation partner within the area of healthy river, defines conservation priorities, leads and manages the healthy river team which supports and improves conservation efforts, and builds strategic, scientific, and technical capacity in the field.
The director develops key partnerships with public & private organizations in order to identify and resolve technical issues and to widely communicate solutions and best practices, develops innovative scientific methods, analyses, tools, and frameworks to address the natural system needs, and engages local community support for local conservation efforts. He/she negotiates complex and innovative solutions with government agencies and key partners to conserve and protect natural communities and develop and implement conservation strategies.
We’re Looking for You
Strengthens TNC’s impacts in Healthy River conservation and management, notably freshwater ecosystem and aquatic biodiversity restoration, and leads the implementation of the Healthy River strategies to contribute to TNC China Program’s conservation goals.
Builds and extends collaboration with key research institutes and government agencies on freshwater ecosystem and aquatic biodiversity protection and restoration, and negotiates complex agreements with key partners at different levels.
Leads the healthy river team and builds the team’s capacity and expertise in freshwater ecosystem conservation and restoration methods, tools, and planning frameworks, and manages the project team to fulfill requirements set for outcomes and deliverables and accountability.
Communicates internally and externally on TNC China Healthy River goals and strategies, mobilizing necessary resources to reach extensive support and successfully implement projects.
Supports and coordinates with TNC’s lands and urban project teams on required Healthy River actions and communication to advance TNC’s conservation goals in China.
Supervises the healthy river team staff with responsibility for performance management, training, and career development.
Frequently makes strategic decisions independently based on analysis, ambiguous information, and context.
What You’ll Bring
BA/BS degree and 5 years experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including staffing, workloads, and finances under deadlines.
Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives, and managing performance.
Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.
Experience negotiating.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in a related field.
Rich knowledge & experience in Healthy River-related program management.
Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experiences are appreciated.
5-7 years experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated experience influencing, developing, and implementing conservation policy and plans.
Knowledge of current trends and practices in a relevant discipline(s) and regions.
Ability to develop practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes.
Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives or related fields.
Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.

Forest Carbon and Ecological Restoration (FCER) Senior Project Manager develops, manages, and advances conservation programs, plans, and methods for large-scale geographic areas. The FCER Senior Project Manager provides technical leadership and support to a business unit or Division by planning, directing, and implementing preserve management programs and stewardship. They address critical threats to natural systems and individual species, foster cross-site learning among an international conservation community, and supply conservation planning teams (formerly called “eco regional” planning teams) with site or landscape-level information relevant to the planning process.
They develop and implement conservation strategies, employ a full range of protection tools to acquire varying degrees of legal interest in land, and implements a variety of strategies to secure public and private support for TNC conservation priorities. They coordinate community support and maintain preserved areas frequented by the visiting public. May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.

FCER team is committed to being the best practitioner of ecological restoration in China's biodiversity hotspots and pioneering of ecosystem carbon sinks in different regions. Through comprehensive research, field visits, and cooperation, such as planning and implementing Yunnan Golden Monkey corridor reconstruction in Yunnan, the Giant Panda habitat expansion in Sichuan, and combined with different voluntary emission reduction standards to develop forestry carbon sink projects, to provide NCS solutions. We are inviting the new member to join us and achieve conservation goals for the healthy river together.
What You’ll Bring
BA/BS degree, 5 years experience in forest carbon & ecosystem management or natural resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience negotiating complex agreements.
Supervisory experience.
Experience communicating with the public and/or media both in writing and verbally.
Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Web Browsers.
Experience with principles of land acquisition.
Experience in training and curriculum design.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Land Protection directs all aspects of protection, science, stewardship, and community relations for Land Protection area within China program. Land protection team is responsible for a comprehensive program to protect critical natural areas with high biodiversity value and key ecosystem functions, the team also establishes and maintains policy, science, and practice partnerships within the area of land protection in China.
The Land Protect senior manager is responsible for the implementation of key projects, the development of key partnerships with public and private organizations, the identification of policy, technical, and application issues, the communication with interested parties about solutions and best practices, the engagement of multi-stakeholder support for systemic change efforts, and the negotiations of complex and innovative solutions with stakeholders.
What You’ll Bring
BA/BS, and 5 years experience in natural resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience managing complex or multiple projects.

Knowledge and experience in designing and operating conservation projects are required.
