Located in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, Casa Pampulha was originally designed by architect Zanin Caldas in the 1970s and later transformed into a gallery for displaying art collections. Its interior and exterior decoration design combines a variety of elements, showing the historical heritage while highlighting the modern artistic atmosphere.

From the outside, the building's facade is a wonderful presentation of the fusion of multiple styles. The glass panels are finely modulated to form a unique rhythm. Large areas of glass not only ensure daylighting, but also allow the building to penetrate the surrounding environment. The virtual and real contrast between the solid wall and the glass creates a unique sense of volume, showing a wonderful balance between weight and lightness in the changes of light and shadow. The wooden structure of the building not only provides a framework for the division of space, but also adds a natural and warm atmosphere. This is a reference to the use of natural materials in traditional Japanese architecture, and it also complements the natural environment of Brazil.

The renovated landscape design adds a lot of color to the building. The new landscape is supplemented on the basis of restoring the original style. There are many sculptures placed outdoors, such as the ice house sculpture by Italian artist Mario Merz. These sculptures complement the surrounding flowers, plants and trees, making the entire outdoor space an open-air art exhibition hall. People strolling in it can not only feel the beauty of nature, but also appreciate excellent works of art.
改造后的景觀設(shè)計(jì)為建筑增色不少。新景觀在修復(fù)原有風(fēng)貌的基礎(chǔ)上進(jìn)行補(bǔ)充,室外擺放著多件雕塑作品,如意大利藝術(shù)家馬里奧?梅爾茨的冰屋雕塑,這些雕塑與周圍的花草樹木相互映襯,使整個(gè)戶外空間成為一個(gè)露天藝術(shù)展廳,人們漫步其中,既能感受自然之美,又能欣賞藝術(shù)佳作。
Walking into the interior, the spatial layout design cleverly combines the functions of residence and gallery. The original living space has been adjusted to meet the needs of art exhibitions while retaining the atmosphere of life. Each room can be used as an independent exhibition space, divided according to the theme of the art collection, and through the transparent space design and the connection of the wooden structure, the overall coherence is maintained, allowing visitors to smoothly shuttle between different exhibition areas.
走進(jìn)室內(nèi),空間布局的設(shè)計(jì)巧妙融合了住宅與畫廊的功能。原有的居住空間經(jīng)過調(diào)整,在保留生活氣息的同時(shí),滿足了藝術(shù)展覽的需求。各個(gè)房間既可以作為獨(dú)立的展示空間,根據(jù)藝術(shù)藏品的主題進(jìn)行劃分,又通過通透的空間設(shè)計(jì)和木質(zhì)結(jié)構(gòu)的連接,保持了整體的連貫性,讓參觀者能夠流暢地穿梭于不同展覽區(qū)域。
The choice of furniture in the room is very unique. There are classic pieces designed by Zanin Caldas in the 70s, and new furniture created by Helena T. Rios. These furniture styles are diverse, some are simple and modern, and some have a retro charm. While they meet practical functions, they also become part of the space decoration. The placement of furniture does not follow the traditional fixed pattern, sometimes creating a warm home atmosphere, and sometimes showing the professional sense of art exhibition, blurring the boundaries between residence and gallery.

Lighting design is a highlight of the interior decoration. The new lighting scheme focuses on the architectural elements of the roof, such as the jagged gaps between the rafters are clearly visible under the light, the wooden trusses around the second floor are designed with linear lights, and the gaps above the room are highlighted by asymmetrical top corner lighting. These lighting designs not only illuminate the space, but also strengthen the three-dimensional and layered sense of the building structure, allowing the charm of the building to be fully displayed in the changing light and shadow.
