農歷五月初五是端午節。盡管關于端午節起源的傳說很多，如今流傳最廣的是端午節源于紀念戰國末年愛國詩人屈原(（公元前475-221年）。

The Dragon Boat Festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month.Despite having many origins and legends surrounding it, the festival is today acknowledged and celebrated by most Chinese in memory of Qu, who lived in the latter part of the Warring States Period (475-221 BC).

The story of Qu Yuan

Long ago in China, there was a man named Qu Yuan. He was a clever poet and also the Emperor's good friend.Some officers were jealous of Qu Yuan's friendship with the Emperor. They said bad things about him. After the Emperor died, the Emperor's son asked QuYuan to leave the kingdom.

Qu Yuan was very sad, He jumped into a river. People went in their boats to save him, but they could not find him, They did not want the fish to eat Qu Yuan's body, so they dropped rice dumplings into the river.

The day Qu Yuan died was the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. People wanted to remember him, so they made this day a special festival--the Dragon Boat Festival, We watch dragon boat races and eat rice dumpling at the Dragon Boat Festival.

譯文：很久以前，中國有位名叫屈原的詩人。他才華橫溢，深受楚王器重。但其他大臣嫉妒屈原與楚王的友誼，不斷散布謠言詆毀他。楚王去世后，新登基的國君聽信讒言，最終將屈原逐出朝廷。

屈原懷著無比悲痛的心情投江自盡了。人們乘船去救他，卻沒能找到。為了防止魚類啃食屈原的身體，人們將粽子投入江中。

屈原離世的那天恰是農歷五月初五。人們為了紀念他，便將這一天定為端午節。在端午節，我們有賽龍舟、吃粽子的習俗。

The Story of Hou Yi and Chang'e

At the Mid - Autumn Festival, the moon is round and bright. We eat mooncakes and play with lanterns under the beautiful moon.

A long time ago, there were ten suns in the sky. The heat burnt all the crops. People had no food to eat. One day, a strong man named Hou Yi shot down nine of the suns with his bow and arrows. Everybody loved him. The Queen of Heaven gave him a present. It was a pill that could make him live forever.

Soon, Hou Yi became proud and cruel. His kind and beautiful wife Chang’e did not want him to take the pill. She stole it and took it. Suddenly, she became very light and flew straight to the moon. Chang’e lived there ever after.

譯文：中秋節的時候，月亮又圓又亮。人們一邊吃著月餅，一邊在美麗的月光下玩賞花燈。這個習俗背后有個古老的傳說：

很久以前，天上有十個太陽。強烈的陽光烤焦了莊稼，人們沒有糧食吃。這時，一位名叫后羿的勇士用弓箭射下了九個太陽，拯救了百姓。大家都愛戴他，王母娘娘也賜給他一顆能長生不老的仙丹。

可是后來，后羿變得驕傲又殘暴。他善良美麗的妻子嫦娥不想讓他吃下仙丹，就偷偷把仙丹吃了下去。結果她身體突然變輕，飄飄蕩蕩一直飛到了月亮上。從此，嫦娥就住在了月宮里。
