中國有許多古城，有的隱在深山，有的枕著江水，而平遙古城，卻像一枚從歷史里走來的印章，把明清的輝煌與滄桑一并蓋在晉中的黃土地上。

初到平遙，最先映入眼簾的便是那座保存完整的古城墻。青磚灰瓦砌成的城墻巍然矗立，將整座小城圈在時(shí)光里，斑駁的墻磚上爬滿了歲月的青苔。順著石階拾級(jí)而上，站在城墻之巔遠(yuǎn)眺，城內(nèi)是棋盤般規(guī)整的街巷和錯(cuò)落的灰色屋頂，城外則是晉中平原廣袤的黃土與遠(yuǎn)處若隱若現(xiàn)的山影。

進(jìn)得城來，仿佛走進(jìn)了一部活著的歷史劇。平遙古城沒有高樓大廈，只有連綿的青磚四合院，雕花木門半掩著，門上斑駁的銅環(huán)在午后的陽光下泛著暗光。一塊塊青石板鋪就的街巷曲折延伸，腳步聲在石板上輕輕回響，仿佛帶著人踏入百年前的晉商舊夢(mèng)。

平遙最熱鬧的，當(dāng)屬明清一條街。這條街自東城門一直延伸到古城中心，街道兩旁，票號(hào)、鏢局、錢莊、布莊鱗次櫛比。古時(shí)這里商號(hào)林立、貨通天下，如今依舊店鋪林立，賣的是雕漆、琉璃、剪紙、銅器，也賣手工制的老陳醋和黃酒，游客們?nèi)齼蓛舍溽嗥溟g，感嘆古城不老，市井猶在。

若說平遙古城最自豪的，莫過于那句“匯通天下”。在票號(hào)的興盛年代，這里是中國金融的發(fā)源地。日升昌票號(hào)如今依舊矗立在古街一隅，木質(zhì)的大門上“日升昌”三個(gè)鎏金大字沉穩(wěn)而厚重。走進(jìn)票號(hào)舊址，耳邊仿佛響起昔日賬房先生沙沙的算盤聲，身影穿梭于柜臺(tái)、賬簿、金庫之間，一紙銀票便能通達(dá)九州四海。

平遙的時(shí)光，是慢的。若不趕時(shí)間，不如隨意走進(jìn)一座老宅子，坐在雕花的窗下，看光影透過格子窗灑落在青磚地面上。屋子深處可能還住著地道的平遙人，院子里栽著月季或石榴，墻角擱著老陶缸，貓咪臥在曬暖的石階上，半瞇著眼，也懶得理會(huì)來來往往的游客。

到了傍晚，古城褪去了白日的喧囂，燈籠一盞盞亮起，橘紅的光把青磚墻面映得溫潤(rùn)可親。巷子里傳來遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)近近的吆喝聲，偶爾幾聲清脆的風(fēng)鈴叮當(dāng)作響。若是冬日，街邊的老店早早支起了銅鍋火爐，蒸騰的熱氣里，一碗刀削面、一碗熱騰騰的平遙牛肉湯，足以驅(qū)走寒意，也暖了來客的心。

平遙不僅是古城的名字，更是一種晉商精神的象征。這里曾是商賈云集、鏢師往來、銀號(hào)林立的繁華之地，如今雖不再金銀滾滾，卻把這段輝煌細(xì)細(xì)藏進(jìn)磚縫里、院落中，藏進(jìn)后輩們溫厚質(zhì)樸的性子里。走在古城，總能看見年歲已高的老人倚在門口曬太陽，或低聲絮語，或靜靜守望，把這份時(shí)光見證得更真切。

出了城門，若有余興，不妨去雙林寺或鎮(zhèn)國寺看看。雙林寺藏著數(shù)百尊彩塑佛像，造型生動(dòng)，神態(tài)各異，被譽(yù)為“東方彩塑藝術(shù)寶庫”；鎮(zhèn)國寺里的萬佛殿則是中國現(xiàn)存最古老的木結(jié)構(gòu)建筑之一，斗拱飛檐之間，是千年不倒的堅(jiān)毅。
