In an era dominated by sensationalism and negative news, the call for the media to prioritize more positive stories has gained traction. Despite the merits of highlighting good news, I firmly believe that a balanced presentation is essential for the media to fulfill its role effectively.

In stark contrast, media landscape overshadowed by negative news on crime, conflict, and disaster, can lead to a sense of hopelessness and anxiety among the public, fostering a pessimistic outlook on life. Furthermore, positive news can encourage social cohesion and altruism. Acts of kindness, cooperation, and successful community projects showcased on the media set positive examples for the public, for which viewers and readers are more likely to be motivated to engage in volunteer work, or help those in need. This, in turn, can strengthen social bonds and create a more harmonious and supportive community environment.

Ignoring these issues while centering on positive stories would deprive the public of the right to know the truth of the world. Besides, too much positive news can be perceived as propaganda. Audiences may question the credibility of the media if it seems to be sugarcoating reality. Accordingly, maintaining a reputation for objectivity and impartiality is crucial for the media to retain the trust of the public. A balanced mix of positive and negative news demonstrates that the media is committed to presenting a comprehensive and accurate picture of the world.
