Introduction
In an era dominated by sensationalism and negative news, the call for the media to prioritize more positive stories has gained traction. Despite the merits of highlighting good news, I firmly believe that a balanced presentation is essential for the media to fulfill its role effectively.
解析
? era n.
? dominate v.
? sensationalism n.
? prioritize v.
? traction n.
Body paragraph 1
Admittedly, incorporating more positive news stories brings several significant benefits, among which the most conspicuous one would be inspiring and motivating people. When people read about stories about individuals overcoming adversity, or scientific breakthroughs, we are more likely to feel encouraged and empowered. In stark contrast, media landscape overshadowed by negative news on crime, conflict, and disaster, can lead to a sense of hopelessness and anxiety among the public, fostering a pessimistic outlook on life. Furthermore, positive news can encourage social cohesion and altruism. Acts of kindness, cooperation, and successful community projects showcased on the media set positive examples for the public, for which viewers and readers are more likely to be motivated to engage in volunteer work, or help those in need. This, in turn, can strengthen social bonds and create a more harmonious and supportive community environment.
解析
(1) 納入更多正面新聞報道能夠鼓舞和激勵人心;
(2) 正面新聞能夠促進社會凝聚力與利他主義;
? incorporate
? conspicuous adj.
? adversity n.
? breakthrough n.
? empowered adj.
? overshadow v.
? foster v.
? pessimistic adj.
? cohesion n.
? altruism n.
? showcase v.
? harmonious adj.
Body paragraph 2
However, an overemphasis on good news risks presenting an inaccurate and one - sided view of the world. The media's fundamental responsibility is to inform the public about reality, and this includes reporting on negative events, be they environmental crises or social injustices. Ignoring these issues while centering on positive stories would deprive the public of the right to know the truth of the world. Besides, too much positive news can be perceived as propaganda. Audiences may question the credibility of the media if it seems to be sugarcoating reality. Accordingly, maintaining a reputation for objectivity and impartiality is crucial for the media to retain the trust of the public. A balanced mix of positive and negative news demonstrates that the media is committed to presenting a comprehensive and accurate picture of the world.
? overemphasis n.
? crises n.
? injustice n.
? deprive v.
? perceive vt.
? propaganda n.
? credibility n.
? sugarcoat vt.
? impartiality n.
? retain v.
? be committed to 致力于
? comprehensive adj.
Conclusion
In conclusion, functioning as an information bridge that significantly influences public perceptions and outlooks, the media bears a profound responsibility. It is of paramount significance for the media to recognize and celebrate the many positive aspects of life, whereas it is equally crucial to inform the challenges and issues facing the world. Only in this way can the media effectively serve its role as a reliable source of information and a catalyst for positive change.
解析
? perception n.
? bearv.
? paramount adj.
? catalyst n.
