跟莎士比亞類似，英國大文豪狄更斯在他著述等身的一生中，也創造了許多英文單詞，有一些至今尚在使用。我們今天就來捋一捋，看認識多少：

Abuzz：形容詞，嚶嚶嗡嗡的，形容人聲嘈雜。例句：The room was abuzz over the latest scandal.

Boredom：名詞，厭倦，無聊之意。例句：He had given up attending lectures out of sheer boredom.

Butterfinger：名詞，黃油手，指做事毛手毛腳的人。例句："Butterfingers!" she called as I dropped the hot plates.

Devil-may-care：形容詞，無憂無慮的。例句：Please assume a devil-may-care attitude in the game.

Flummox：動詞，使困惑。例句：I was flummoxed by her question.

On the rampage: 瘋狂的暴動。例句：Gangs of youths went on the rampage in the city yesterday.

Creeps: 名詞，毛骨悚然的感覺。例句：Charles Dickens may not give you the creeps (well, maybe some of his characters do), but he did give you the phrase the creeps.

Boffin: 名詞，科學家，專家，來自狄更斯小說《我們共同朋友》中的人物。例句：Drainage experts, sunlight specialists, energy boffins, flood-risk experts and more have been summoned.

Scrooge: 名詞，吝嗇鬼，來自狄更斯的小說《圣誕頌歌》。例句：He is a real scrooge.

Pecksniffian：形容詞，偽善的，來自狄更斯小說《馬丁·翟述偉》。例句：His book suffers from excessively long harangues against Pecksniffian prigs and temperance types who, he claims, are still trying to ruin our fun.

Pickwickian: 形容詞，匹克威克式的；天真、善良和慷慨的；類似于我們今天說“傻白甜”的那種人，來自狄更斯小說《匹克威外傳》。例句：A Pickwickian chairman, rosy-cheeked, in frock coat and old-fashioned cravat, adopted the role of Santa Claus.
